While having UX/UI design experience and training is a big plus, it’s not the be-all-and-end-all. What really matters is that you’re a great collaborator with a drive to make a difference.
The work is creative, varied and satisfying. Here’s an overview of what the role looks like and what you can expect day to day.
Your key responsibilities will be:
A day as a UX designer at Boost could include:
People love working here. In fact, we won the Team Gold award for the best team culture in Wellington.
Here are some of the things that make our UX designer jobs special.
Staff happiness is a top priority at Boost. We track happiness so we can make any changes needed. The result? TinyPulse, the engagement tracking tool we use, recently gave us an award as one of the happiest workplaces in the world.
“Because everyone is so happy and well looked-after here, they do want to make Boost successful, so we do have really productive teams,” says Emma.
At Boost, we only take on work that makes the world a better place, so your design solutions can have a big impact.
Because these are Wellington UX designer jobs, you get to work face-to-face with a wide range of government clients, helping them make a difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders. Learn more about the impacts we’re having for our government clients.
“It’s really rewarding being able to design things that let the public access what they need. You’re making their lives better and easier, you’re making a difference,” says Emma.
As globally-recognised Agile experts, we know how to sustainably deliver valuable software week in week out. This means no overtime and no pressure to take on more than you’re comfortable with. As a result, you get the space to do your best work.
Because you’ll see projects through from ideation to release, the work is varied, creative and offers constant opportunities to grow your skills.
You’ll do discovery, research, wireframing, user experience development, user testing, graphic design and brand integration. For different projects, this might involve things like illustration, photography, videography or animation — whatever it takes to deliver user experiences that delight the client and their customers.
At every stage you’ll be working closely with the developers and client to ensure the final result is accessible, easy to use, and is just what the users need.

Boost is a WorldBlu-certified freedom-centred workplace. This means you get to directly influence the work we do and the way we do it.
You won’t have a manager, instead you’ll work in self-organising teams.
Every second Friday is devoted to self-selected Research & Development and you pick the tools, training and conferences you need to maximise what you can achieve. If there’s something you need to do your job, just grab the credit card and buy it.
If you love having the freedom to experiment and improve, Boost is for you.
Because we share the same purpose and values, Boost is a really tight-knit team.
“The team here is just so good,” says Emma.
Nick agrees. “The people are amazing,” he says. “None of this would be possible without the team.”
“It’s hard to express what it’s like to work here. Telling people doesn’t do it justice, you have to experience it,” says Nick.
That’s why we let you Test-drive Boost first. It’s your chance to experience Boost, meet the designers, developers and Agile coaches you’ll be working with, and see if Boost’s distinctive way of working is for you.
Here’s how previous test-drivers found the evening:
